Tiny iPads: Big Potential or Fat Chance?
The persistent rumor that Apple will produce a 7-inch iPad garnered some buzz Tuesday when a loose-lipped Samsung "official" revealed that the mini tablets would start shipping later this year. The unnamed official with Samsung Electronics made the disclosure about the so-called iPad mini in a recent news report.
Attention iPad Shoppers: Try Walmart at Midnight
Apple's retail stores will begin selling the company's new iPad at 8 am tomorrow. But if there's a Walmart in your area, you can buy one even earlier. Eight hours earlier, in fact. The retailer says that its 24-hour stores will begin selling the new iPad at 12:01 am local time. Odd that Apple would give a big-box retailer such a jump on rival stores, including its own, but it appears to have done just that. Supplies will, of course, be limited. And if you do snag one early, try to resist the urge to taunt the queues at any nearby Apple Stores.

Privacy and Civil Liberties in the Digital Age
Between our wireless phone company, the company that we use for e-mail, our smartphone company and the companies that provide the apps on our phones, there exists a detailed, expansive record of everywhere we've been, every website we've visited and everyone we've called, e-mailed and texted and what we've said ? often going back years and years. I believe that consumers have a fundamental right to know what information is being collected about them. I believe that they have a right to decide whether they want to share that information, and with whom they want to share it and when. And I believe that consumers have a right to expect that companies that store their personal information will store it securely.

Copyright Kings AreJudge, Jury and Executioner on YouTube
Content ID was intended to help copyright holders manage the chaos of YouTube. They'd provide copies of their audio and video for analysis, which would then algorithmically match newly uploaded videos. If a match was found, rights holders could automatically block the video or, increasingly, claim money from video advertising. It's a fine idea. But there has been a dramatic rise in Content ID abuse in the past couple of years, wielded in ways never intended.
